TL1 · PROFESSIONAL GRAND TOUR

An immersive internship experience in Italy

An internship abroad is a chance to experience working and living in another country. Through TL1, young people connect their professional training with new routines, relationships and everyday discoveries in Italy.

We help schools and sending organisations shape an experience that supports learning, confidence and growing independence.

Learning through everyday routines

Learning continues beyond the workplace. Finding a route to work, organising the day, shopping locally and sharing accommodation can all become opportunities to practise responsibility and solve everyday problems.

Participants gradually become more familiar with their surroundings. Our local team helps them understand practical arrangements and knows that settling into a new country takes time.

Communicating across cultures

Working alongside Italian colleagues and spending time with other participants creates opportunities to listen, ask questions and explain ideas in unfamiliar situations.

Different habits and perspectives encourage curiosity. Participants can reflect on how communication changes between a workplace, shared accommodation and encounters with local people.

Discovering Italy

Local visits and shared activities help participants connect what they see at work with the culture and community around them. The cultural programme is agreed with the sending organisation and reflects the destination, dates and needs of the group.

Time outside the placement also gives participants space to get to know one another and make the place where they are staying feel more familiar.

Building confidence with support

For many participants, this is a first experience of living and working abroad. Trying new routines can bring satisfaction as well as uncertainty. Having someone to talk to helps them discuss difficulties and find practical ways forward.

Reflection during and at the end of the stay helps participants recognise what they have learned about work, other people and themselves.
